Coach Rinaldo was the first coach of the Laker girls program.
His teams were well known for their aggressive play, discipline and skill level. Mr. Rinaldo believed in teaching the game of basketball. As a result, several of his former players, went on to become coaches themselves. His teams were always competative. In 1982 (his only losing regular season) his team lost five games by five or fewer points enroute to a 8-13 record. The next season they went 18-5.
Mr. Rinaldo coached two seperate undefeated teams 1978 and 1984. His 1978 squad was the United Press International (coaches) state poll champion for 1978. His teams won eight league titles, as coach Rinaldo guided the Lakers through the Mid Ohio, Lake Shore, independent status and the Toledo Area Athletic Conference. His teams also collected six sectional titles and were ranked in the top twenty of the state of Ohio seven times.
Coach Rinaldo also introduced the girls program to interstate basketball. In 1986 the Lakers hosted Queens New York Christ the King, a USA Today top 25 power (losing at Danbury by a 49-51 score). In 1989 the Lakers travelled to New York City to play Christ the King for the rematch.
He coached five All - Ohio players, who included Denette Kolbe, Chris Pryor, Heidi Gast, Diane Gresh and Krishna Myers. Six of his players scored 1000 or more points.
Coach Rinaldo stressed loyalty, family and commitment to his players, it is a foundation upon which the current program is built.
In 1989 coach Rinaldo retired as a head coach. He moved to the Laker boys program as an varsity assistant and joined current Laker coach Joe Fetzer's coaching staff in the 1993-94 season.
