Perhaps the most amazing accomplishment of Miss Kolbe's career, is that it lasted only two seasons. The first year of basketball at Danbury High School was Miss Kolbe's junior year. All of Miss Kolbe's records (and there are many) were set in just 39 games of varsity basketball. Her senior season the Lakers finished undefeated and were UPI's Ohio class A poll champions for 1978.
At Danbury, Miss Kolbe wrote the Lady Laker history book. She established or holds 11 career or season records for the Laker program. They include:
#7 career scoring leader (1054 points); #1 career scoring average (27.0 points per game); #1 and #3 in season scoring average (28.1 in 1978 and 25.6 in 1977); #3 career rebounding (829 total rebounds); #2 career offensive rebounds (389) and #3 career defensive rebounds (439); #1 and 2 in season rebounds (432 and 396); #1 career field goal percentage (.647); #5 career field goals made (444), #1 season field goals made (258) and #7 career free throw percentage (.578).
She also holds single game marks for field goal percentage (90.4% in a 19 for 21 effort versus Norwalk St. Paul) and for single game rebounds (38).
In her honor, in 1982 the Lady Laker basketball program retired her jersey #33. It is only the third jersey every retired at Danbury High School. Miss Kolbe's original game jersey now hangs in the Danbury Field House as a testament to her outstanding athletic career at Danbury.
In the early years of college womens basketball, Miss Kolbe was a rare catch, she was 6'1" tall, possessed very good ball handling and passing skills and had a fine outside shot. Consequently Miss Kolbe was highly recruited by major college programs of the time. After much thought she narrowed her choices to Ohio State University and Tennessee Tech.
Her college career included being a four year letter winner at Tennessee Tech and playing on teams which won 20 or more games in each of her four seasons. Tennessee Tech also made two NCAA regional appearances during that time.
