Miss Gast would be best remembered as a very hard worker. Her offseason workouts made her one of the programs best players. During the offseason Miss Gast often was seen dribbling in the streets or playing basketball in the park.

Miss Gast was a key member of the 1984 undefeated, 6th ranked Lakers. She was an outstanding point guard and a great passer. She was also well known for her great defensive skills.

Miss Gast's career is well reflected in her placement in the Laker record books. They are as follows:

#1 Season Assists (183 in 1984); #1 Career Assist Leader (444); #2 Career Scoring Leader (1467); #2 Career Field Goals Made (586); #2 Career Field Goal Percentage (.540); #2 Career Free Throw Percentage (.691); #3 Career Free Throws Made (295); #4 Career Scoring Average (17.26 Points Per Game).

Miss Gast elected to continue her basketball career at Eastern Kentucky University. She became a starter as a freshman. She was one of the hardest working players on the floor and no one outworked or out hustled her.
